My Background and Why It Matters

I grew up in North Carolina. Both of my parents were basketball coaches and later elementary school teachers. We did not grow up with money.

Because of that, I was always curious about why some people had money and others did not. That curiosity followed me through college and into my career. I ended up working at Dean Witter, Paine Webber, Morgan Stanley, and UBS.

I learned a lot on that side of the industry, but I also saw how incentives can influence advice.

Why I Pivoted to Annuities

While working at UBS, I read about the demographic wave of people retiring every day. That is when annuities started to make sense to me, specifically fixed annuities that offered contractual guarantees.

When you grow up without money, you think differently. You do not want to lose it once you finally have it. That mindset is what drew me to guarantees and away from hypotheticals.

How The Annuity Man Started

The original company was called Strategic Annuity Solutions. I traveled constantly, meeting people face to face.

That ended when I suffered two herniated discs in my back and could no longer travel. I had to figure out a way to help people without sitting at their kitchen table. That is when we pioneered selling annuities directly to consumers, long before it was common.

Some carriers said no. Others gave us a chance. That is how The Annuity Man began.

Why We Are Based in Las Vegas

We chose Las Vegas so we could serve clients on both coasts. We are open sixty four hours a week, including Saturdays.

The irony is not lost on me. We are located in one of the riskiest cities in the world and we sell no risk products. It works.
