0:00
Hi there, Stan The Annuity Man, America's annuity agent, licensed in all 50 states and Puerto Rico,
0:05
the founder of CGO, Contractual Guarantees Only.
0:08
Today's topic is one that you're loving. You wanted to click it because you still hate
0:13
annuities. You despise annuities. Why do people still hate annuities? And if that's the case, Stan
0:21
The Annuity Man, why did you change your last name to The Annuity Man if people still hate annuities?
0:27
There's a reason. There's bunches of reasons. I'm going to go through those reasons, and then after
0:32
this video, I hope you do the Scooby-Doo and you're like, Ruh!
0:36
"Because I'm going to smack you in the face factually."
0:39
Because a lot of you out there just go, "I hate annuities, man. I hate them."
0:44
Get ready. Sit down. Grab the coffee. We're going to talk about it after this.
0:56
So, in my previous life working on Wall Street, Morgan Stanley,
1:00
Dean Witter, PaineWebber, UBS, I kind of understand how people hate annuities
1:05
because annuities are put down in those environments, the securities environments,
1:09
stock market growth types, this type of stuff. I get that.
1:14
But when I was there, I started learning about them and the
1:17
contractual nature and those guarantees that I really like.
1:21
And that's the reason I left, because I believe in the contractual guarantees of annuities.
1:26
Now, let's get to the reasons that people hate annuities.
1:29
"I hate annuities, Stan. I don't care what you say."
1:32
So, really, do you, Chester?
1:35
Social Security, the best inflation annuity on the planet. Don't even start.
1:40
"Well, that's not an annuity."
1:42
Yes, it is. It's a payment for life. It's a single premium immediate annuity. That's one of the
1:48
eight to ten types of annuities out here. But that's what that is.
1:52
The government backs it up. It's a great annuity.
1:56
"Well, okay, okay. I'll accept that. Okay. But I still hate the rest."
2:00
Okay. So, do you hate your pension? If you're so fortunate to either work for the government or the
2:05
military or a good labor union or a company, one of the 9% of companies that still offer
2:10
pensions to their retired employees, a pension is an annuity payment. That's what it is.
2:18
Still hate them? Do you?
2:20
Okay, that's fine. You can still hate them. Let's keep going.
2:23
Do you have an IRA? Yes, you probably do. A traditional IRA. When you turn a specific age, ages
2:30
seem to keep changing, the IRS taps you on the shoulder,
2:34
and you have to do what's called required minimum distributions.
2:37
That means you have to take money out whether you need it or not because the IRS needs to tax you.
2:42
Don't even argue with me on this. That is an annuity-type payment because you've got to
2:46
do that payment. You've got to take money out until you stop breathing.
2:52
That's the definition of a lifetime income stream. Now,
2:55
it fluctuates based upon what's in your account, but that's another type of annuity.
3:01
"Okay. Okay. Okay. I still hate them. I still hate them."
3:04
Okay. Do you hate CDs?
3:06
CDs, you give money to the bank, it protects the principal, you get an interest rate that's
3:11
guaranteed for a specific period of time that you choose. So, you don't hate that, right?
3:17
"No, I like a good CD right there, son. I like that."
3:21
Okay. How about multi-year guarantee annuities?
3:23
The annuity industry version of a CD. The only difference is, instead of the bank issuing it,
3:28
it's the life insurance company issuing it. No moving parts, no annual fees,
3:32
no market attachments, a guaranteed interest rate for a specific period of time that you choose.
3:39
"Oh, okay, okay, okay. I know what you're saying, Stan. Okay. You're starting to prove it."
3:44
But I'm going to go one step further.
3:48
A lot of you out there go, "Well, I'd never buy an income annuity, one of those
3:52
pay annuities, because when you die, the annuity company keeps the money."
3:56
Stop talking. I'm losing IQ points. That's stupid.
3:59
Okay. With annuities for lifetime income, there are four types: single premium
4:04
immediate annuities, deferred income annuities, qualified longevity annuity contracts,
4:08
and income riders. All of those can be structured so that 100% of any unused money,
4:17
if your Learjet hits the mountain on day four, goes to your family.
4:21
Goes to your family. Goes to your family! Not the evil annuity company.
4:28
I'm amazed at the stupidity of some financial journalists and the stupidity of
4:35
masters-of-the-universe money managers that say,
4:38
"Don't buy an annuity because, you know, when you die, the annuity company keeps the money."
4:43
They just forfeited whatever credibility they had because they said that.
4:48
Why do people still hate annuities?
4:50
This is my opinion: because the people that sell them are full of crap. The people that sell them
4:57
push the truth. The people that sell them push hypotheticals and theoreticals and back-tested,
5:03
unicorn-chasing-the-butterfly returns and upfront bonus nonsense, which is candy for the stupid.
5:10
The real reason that people still hate annuities is the sales pitches that are out there.
5:14
Now, you've got to say, "Wait a minute, Stan The Annuity Man, America's annuity agent,
5:19
licensed in all 50 states and Puerto Rico. Don't you sell annuities?"
5:24
Yeah, more than anyone. Billions. But only if it's appropriate and suitable.
5:30
We're not a hammer looking for a nail. Everybody at my
5:36
headquarters in Las Vegas, they're licensed in all 50 states, but they're not on commission.
5:42
Their incentive and bonus are based on your satisfaction.
5:46
And your satisfaction might be, we ask you the two questions: What do you want the
5:50
money to contractually do? And when do you want those contractual guarantees to start?
5:54
Then we go through the PILL acronym for what an annuity is used for.
5:57
P, stands for principal protection.
5:59
I, stands for income for life.
6:00
L, stands for legacy.
6:01
The other L, stands for long-term care.
6:04
We might say, "You know what? You don't need an annuity."
6:07
That's a good outcome for us if that's the truth. And
6:10
we tell the truth, so we don't have to remember anything.
6:12
The real reason people hate annuities is the bad chicken-dinner seminars or
6:16
expensive steak-dinner seminars where they bring you in and they talk about one product,
6:21
and they talk about hypotheticals and theoreticals and upfront bonuses.
6:26
If you're dumb enough, stupid enough, gullible enough to think that there's a philanthropist at
6:32
an annuity company giving money away, then you get what you deserve if you bought that crap.
6:36
The reason people still hate annuities is because
6:39
commissions aren't the same with all annuities. Commissions are built into annuities.
6:45
It's a net transaction to you. But the complex products have the highest commissions.
6:51
If there were straight, low-level commissions on all annuity products,
6:56
that would solve a lot of problems. Because most agents out there, unfortunately,
7:02
they'll find out what the highest-commission product is, then they'll try to sell it to you.
7:06
Don't believe me? It's true.
7:09
Or they'll find out, "If I sell enough of this one product,
7:12
I get to go on this incentive trip. I really want to go on that one."
7:17
Then they'll sell it.
7:19
Why do people still hate annuities? It's because of that.
7:22
Do I blame the carriers? Not really. I mean, they could clean it up by getting rid of all
7:28
incentive trips. They could, I guess, as an industry, lower commissions to one level rate.
7:35
People talk about fiduciary. Fiduciary, meaning putting
7:39
the client's best interest ahead of the agent or adviser.
7:43
That's a no-brainer. That should be every person in the financial business,
7:47
how they walk into the office every day. Do that voluntarily. You don't need a plaque on
7:52
the wall to say, "Well, I'm a really good guy. I got certified by this group that says that
7:58
I'm a really good guy or gal, and I'm going to put your best interest ahead of mine."
8:02
You need a plaque for that?
8:04
The reason people still hate annuities is because they don't trust the sales pitch.
8:10
What we've done with that? There is no sales pitch. It's contractual guarantees only.
8:16
What's the pitch?
8:18
The rating of the company, A+ or better for lifetime income, and
8:22
then the highest number. We quote all carriers. It's that simple.
8:26
There's no brochure of this company. No. No. No. It's a commodity product.
8:32
Not one annuity is better than the other. Not one company is
8:36
better than the other. They have higher ratings,
8:39
financial ratings, than others, but for lifetime income, it's A+ or better and the highest number.
8:45
The reason people still hate annuities is because the people selling them make
8:49
them difficult to understand, and they do that for a reason.
8:54
Too many times I talk to people and say, "Okay, what do you own?"
8:57
They'll say, "Well, Stan, I just want to let you know I've already bought some annuities."
9:00
"What do you own?"
9:00
They can't tell me.
9:01
If you can't remember what you bought, then you were sold. You were sold a bill of goods.
9:08
If you can't explain it to a nine-year-old, no offense
9:10
to nine-year-olds, you shouldn't have bought it.
9:14
Annuities are simple.
9:16
The reason people still hate annuities is because the advisers and agents make them complex.
9:23
They talk about back-testing it: "If you'd owned it 10 years ago..."
9:26
and "Look at the potential..." and "There's a possibility..."
9:28
Crapola. All kinds of bullshit with that. That's French for crap.
9:35
You never look at that. You look at the contractual guarantees.
9:38
Why do people still hate annuities? It's because of that.
9:41
Why do people still hate annuities? It's because, in my opinion, the fixed annuity space
9:47
takes only a 70 to pass the test at a state level to sell it. I think the bar needs to be higher.
9:53
That's not going to solve everything, but it could be a start.
9:58
The reason people still hate annuities is because they haven't been presented the correct way.
10:05
And that correct way is contractual guarantees only.
10:08
My clients don't hate annuities. I get emails every single week from people who go, "I used
10:13
to hate annuities, but the contractual guarantees are what they are. I like those. Those are good."
10:17
We're transferring the risk. That's exactly what you're doing.
10:20
I encourage you to go to my site, theannuityman.com.
10:24
You can run quotes to your heart's content. You can see a live feed of
10:28
the best fixed-rate MYGAs in the country. You can download my six owner's manuals.

You can watch videos. You can watch replays of my live events. All kinds of stuff.
10:39
You can do that. You can email me at [email protected], and I will respond.
10:45
But why do people still hate annuities?
10:47
Because the sales pitch is bad. The delivery system for that sales pitch is bad.
10:53
And annuities shouldn't be pitched at all.
10:55
People say, I heard someone the other day say,
11:00
"Well, no one wakes up in the morning and wants to buy an annuity."
11:03
I don't agree with that. I mean, we sell annuities, okay? People come to our site
11:10
to purchase an annuity. But there's no high pressure. There's no urgency to buy one.
11:14
Hey, do me one last favor. Above my head, I did a
11:18
video a while back, but I want you to take a look at it again on what sets
11:22
Stan The Annuity Man and my team in place. We are completely different from everyone out there.
11:29
I mean, we run it tight. We run it the correct way,
11:33
and it's all pro-consumer. We listen. We use our ears and mouth in proportion two to one.
11:38
So, go to that video. You'll learn a little bit about me, some stuff you might not want to hear,
11:43
some stuff you probably should hear before you make a decision.
11:46
There's no mulligans in retirement. You've got to do it right the first time.
11:49
Alright? So that video will help.
