So, Stan The Annuity Man, what are the best annuity providers for RILAs'

0:05
registered index-linked annuities and some educational resources?

0:09
Since you're America's annuity agent and licensed in all 50 states and the

0:13
founder of Contractual Guarantees Only (CGO), Stan The Annuity Man, we thought,

0:20
as typing this in as something we're looking for, you'd be the person to go to.

0:24
I am the person to go to, but it's probably not going to be the answer that you're looking for,

0:30
which is the reason you need to hang in there. And I'll get to that after this.

0:41
Okay, so, this is one of those topics where consultants, lawyers, agents,

0:47
PR people that walk around with me and ride around with me in my Suburban,

0:52
you know, and they, "Yes, Stan. No, Stan. Yes, Stan. No, Stan." This is one that they

0:56
convinced me to do because RILAs' registered index-linked annuities are new, the newest

1:02
annuity type to the scene in a while, but it's something that I do not recommend.

1:08
I have nothing against them. I just don't recommend them because it doesn't fit into

1:12
what I do, which is Contractual Guarantees Only. You own an annuity for what it will do,

1:17
not what it might do. And there's two questions that I ask every single person: What do you want

1:22
the money to contractually do? When do you want those contractual guarantees to start?

1:26
And then there's an acronym, PILL. P, stands for principal protection.

1:29
I, stands for income for life. One L, stands for legacy. The other L, stands for long-term care.

1:34
So let's talk about RILAs. First of all, I don't mention company names. I mean,

1:38
if they came to me and paid me $100,000 every time I mentioned the company name,

1:43
I still wouldn't mention the company name. Why? Because annuities are commodities,

1:48
okay? We represent all carriers. It's about the contractual guarantee number and the rating,

1:53
and then my recommendation. That's really what it comes down to.

1:55
But let's talk about RILAs. Registered index-linked annuities are the annuity

2:00
industry's version and the brokerage industry's version

2:05
and the banking industry's version and the RIA industry's version of an indexed annuity.

2:12
Fixed index annuities were put on the planet in 1995 for CD returns, but it is the most overhyped,

2:19
bastardized, overpromised sales-pitch nonsense on the planet. Market upside

2:25
with no downside. Market participation with principal protection, all under a fixed

2:32
structure. It's a CD product. And since 1995, it's returned CD returns. Okay? It is what it is.

2:41
But there was so much sales happening with the indexed annuity side because

2:48
people, I mean, if you stood up in front of people and said, "This pill," well,

2:52
I can say that now, "This pill will make you skinny." There is one now. We're not going

2:56
to talk about all the bad things, right? You're going to sell a lot of those pills,

3:01
right? If it sounds too good to be true, it is every single time. There's always a catch.

3:06
And with indexed annuities, the catch is it's a CD product, not a market product,

3:10
even though it's sold as a market product. And they attach things like upfront bonuses,

3:15
which I call candy for the stupid. There's not a philanthropist giving away money.

3:19
But over here, watching all of these sales was the brokerage industry,

3:26
and they were going, "We've got to come up with something." And they did.

3:30
So their version of an indexed annuity is a registered index-linked annuity.

3:35
You have to have a Series 7 or be an RIA. You've

3:37
got to go through those tests that most agents over here couldn't pass, ever.

3:42
Of course, I had that when I worked with Dean Witter, PaineWebber, UBS,

3:45
and Morgan Stanley. And I could pass a Series 7 tomorrow blindfolded. Not a big

3:50
deal. Options, all that. I know it. Munis, got it.

3:56
But the bar is raised over here just from an intellectual standpoint,

3:59
IQ standpoint, to be able to recommend registered index-linked annuities.

4:03
I have nothing against them. I'm not going to mention the companies' names,

4:05
but what I call them are co-pay annuities, kind of like co-pay, the Medicare stuff you do. With some

4:12
of them, not all, but some, you can choose the level of downside that you participate in or co-pay in.

4:20
Now, if you said to me, "Hold a gun to my head," and I think you're crazy

4:24
enough to pull the trigger, it's okay because the lovely Christine,

4:28
there's a huge term policy behind me, so she's going to live real well, so it's all good.

4:32
But if you held the gun to my head and you said, "Stan The Annuity Man,

4:36
America's annuity agent, the go-to source on all things annuities, if the only two

4:42
products you're on a deserted island and the only two products that you can buy,

4:46
and you have to buy one between an indexed annuity and a RILA, which one would you buy?"

4:52
Well, the first question I would say is, do you need lifetime income? Because if you do,

4:57
then you attach an income rider and you buy an indexed annuity.

5:00
But if you say, "No, I do not need lifetime income. I just want the potential growth.

5:07
The non-guaranteed growth, Stan. Non-guaranteed growth turns me on. I love non-guaranteed growth."

5:15
Tells me a lot about your life, you know what I'm saying?

5:17
Okay. I would say buy the RILA. It's got the best non-guaranteed story on the planet. It's

5:24
got the best potential story on the planet. But potential doesn't pay the bills, player.

5:30
If you want market growth, go get it. If you want market growth,

5:35
don't put limitations on it. Why would you want limitations on your market growth?

5:44
You can go get exceptional guaranteed fixed-rate guarantees on the fixed side. Exceptional. But the

5:54
greed factor, baby. Oh, the greed factor. "Oh, I want to make sure I'm getting..."

6:00
A guy told me the other day, I said, "What type of return

6:02
are you looking for?" He goes, "I'd be happy with a 9%, 10% return annually."

6:07
I'm like, "You and every other money manager."

6:09
Yes, we are in a, check the date, raging bull market where monkeys are throwing

6:13
darts at boards and making money. I get it. But things go in cycles.

6:19
Now, that's the argument that the guy is going to say for the RILA. "Hey,

6:23
this registered index-linked annuity, this equity index," they used to call them equity

6:28
indexed annuities, "This indexed annuity over here, market upside, no downside."

6:32
No. That means you can get zero.

6:34
And with RILAs, you can get a little bit more than zero. You can lose money, but

6:40
you can buffer it. They used to call them buffer annuities. "Buffer. We're going to buffer it."

6:46
Okay. I'm not against that. Okay? I'm really not against that product if it's in proportion.

6:54
If you said, "You know what? I've got 3% in managed futures, I've got 3% in gold,

7:00
and I've got 5% in RILA. Then I have my income floor, and then I invest the rest."

7:06
I'm okay with that. I'm okay with that.

7:08
But that's not how it's sold, and you know it.

7:10
The other thing on both fixed index annuities and RILAs:

7:16
if someone is saying, "I'm going to charge you a wrap fee. I'm going to charge you

7:20
an annual fee to manage it," get up and walk the hell out of the office.

7:26
Annuities do not require an annual management fee. Are we clear? Annuities aren't managed.

7:40
Even the lovely RILA and the lovely indexed annuity.

7:44
I'm going to win out here. I'm going to tell you that right now. I'm going to

7:47
do as many videos and write as many books and talk in as many

7:50
places as I can until I squash all this bullshit. I'm tired of it.

7:57
When you're in Chapter 2 of your life, don't buy dreams. When you're in Chapter

8:03
2 of your life, don't buy potential. When you're in Chapter 2 of your life,

8:08
don't buy back-tested. When you're in Chapter 2 of your life, buy contractual.

8:16
Put the income floor in place. Put the principal protection in

8:20
place that you want, and then go invest the rest.

8:22
You'll be a better investor because you don't have to disrupt.

8:25
And I'm not talking about investing the rest by buying a RILA or buying an indexed

8:29
annuity. I'm saying invest the rest, buy something that has unlimited upside.

8:34
Choose your stock of the day in the last year or so that's gone haywire up, like Nvidia. Great.

8:40
Would you want a limited upside on Nvidia?

8:45
Is it worth it to buffer that? You want to buffer that, do you?

8:50
No.

8:51
Annuities should never be purchased for market growth. Annuities should never be a replacement

8:59
for the stock market. Annuities should never be a replacement for aggressive investing.

9:08
That has its place.

9:10
But annuities are contractual.

9:13
Go to my site, theannuityman.com.

9:16
If you want to rail against me, you can, stan@theannuityman is my personal

9:22
email address that I check. I don't have people checking it for me. I check it.

9:27
I get a bunch. But that's okay.

9:29
And it could be hateful. You can hide behind the keyboard if you like,

9:34
but just put it in the back of your head as you're writing the hate:

9:36
"Man, I might run into that cat at the freaking hotel or the airport."

9:42
You don't want that. No, you don't.

9:45
Do me a favor. Above my head, I did a video that kind of coincides with all this.

9:52
You're thinking, "Stan, you're a genius. How do you do that?"

9:55
I don't know. It just happens, you know?

9:57
But that video is talking about contractual guarantees,

10:00
it's talking about annuities being commodities. None are better than

10:04
the other when you're looking at the contractual guarantees of the policy.

10:07
I'm the only person out here that's doing that. That doesn't make me crazy. That makes me right.

10:15
Okay?

10:15
So watch that video. Get in touch with me.

10:18
If you schedule a call, you can tell my person if you might get me, okay? But if you don't get

10:23
me, you can say, "Listen, I really respect you picking up the phone, but I want Stan."

10:27
And you'll get Stan.

10:29
Unless I'm dead. But if I'm dead, you don't want me anyway because I can't talk.

10:33
But the point is, you can get me.

10:35
Alright?

10:35
So calm down on all these hypothetical, theoretical dreams you've been pitched.

10:41
Because if you buy the dream, you're going to own the contractual reality.

10:46
My name is Stan The Annuity Man.

10:50
See you next time.
