Why should I consider a fixed rate annuity instead of a CD?

The vast majority of American investors have owned a CD (Certificate of Deposit), and if they haven’t, they at least know what they are and how they work.  CDs became very popular during the Jimmy Carter years of high interest rates, and anyone who has a relationship with a local bank has probably owned a CD at one point in time.
